Goddamnit, why are there no proper genderless or otherwise indefinite pronouns? See me perpetuate the myth of a single, male Beowulf poet-narrator because there's no other way to write.

Edit: There's a shiny critic I've come accross who footnotes the first 'he' he uses in every essay to say 'well, he looks neatest, but I really mean he/she/they/it'. I think I will follow his lead.
