OK. Fucking up January exams more than I've ever fucked up any academic thing ever in my entire life really isn't a good enough reason for falling under the nearest bus, is it? I mean, it's not as if they count for anything. It's not like I revised. But. It was all going horribly wrong BEFORE the computer crashed two hours into a three hour exam and ate everything I'd done...

That's good - you have an excuse. It could be worse - your collections could be going incredibly badly and you could be taking all your Finals next term. But what kind of fool gets into that position? *whistles in a nonchalant yet slightly embarrassed fashion*

It's ok, none of my collections went well for at least two terms before finals and I managed a 2:1. It's revision before the exam that counts.

Poor baby.

It will all be ok. Yes. It will.

*hugs* No, you're right, collections don't count towards anything. If you were fucking up the exam and you hadn't revised, it doesn't mean you're stupid, it means you didn't revise, something which gets rapidly more important as you progress in a course after the first year and computers crash and eat things as a matter of course and are generally evil for no good reason (read my latest posts if you don't believe me) so, yeah...

the whole 'not revising' part was the part that was making me feel stupid, rather than the fucking up the exam itself. And yeah. Revision. It's important. I suddenly realise I do not know how the hell to do it. So.

Thanks *hugs*

Yeah, I took it too much for granted that I could get waya with taking exams in the first year without revision. Unfortunately, I don't think I ever did learn that lesson well...

but at least you know that it isn't all your fault, unlike this morning's collection, which was a lost cause before it began, knowing that it was my last chance to prove my tutor wrong before he writes my reference (doh!) and that I should have spent the last 2.5 years working rather than hoping that it would never actually happen.
*buries head in sand even more*

Well. Again I say, it was actually technically speaking all my fault because the not revising came before the computer crashing. I've even admitted as much to my tutor cos I want help.

And *hugs*

This reference business is troubling me too. I'm just hoping that my college tutor, who likes me and doesn't actually take me for any options, isn't talking to any of my other tutors.

Oxford rule-of-thumb: if you get on with your college tutor and they've taught you at some point in the past, they're not going to go around quizzing current tutors unless it's desperately relevant to the job. And they are highly unlikely to write anything less than a glowing report. This *is* Oxford, it has to have pretty side-benefits.

Get someone to put a curse on your computer and throw it into the holy spring of . . . no, wait, wrong millennium.

Glerk. Sounds horrible, but as you said, at least they don't count for anything, and it's better than getting really good collection marks and then lousy finals marks.

but water has a very similar effect to a curse - lots of sparks, if less reversible in the long run. believe me, I have done the sparky computer thing. it is fun but permanent.

No.
Revision is good. I got a 2:2/2:1 in my *prelims* papers because I didn't revise them properly, but I wound up with a first. (I managed to avoid collections, except for two). I had revision tutorials before finals, which were realy helpful, and everyone is only too willing to share revision tips about that time. You've got plenty of time to sort it out, and if you're tutor's going to help as well, it'll all be fine.
We really should swap assessment methods shouldn't we... *sighs wistfully for finals*
Hugs right back atcha. *hugs*

I love you. I hope you didn't do as badly as you think. And don't you dare throw yourself under a bus, not when I'm coming to see you tomorrow! Well, no, not ever, in fact.
I'm thinking of turning up at about eleven, if that's all right by you, cause I want to squeeze as much you into the weekend as physically possible.
*and some more hugs*

My dear Jessie, is no one inducting the G&Sers into second year any more? I am ashamed of the committee! And certain other people who should have explained that second year collections are designed to shame you into occasionally doing work, but are *in no way* to be taken seriously.

That might sound flippant, but it's really not. Your focus in second year should be (1) completing enough work that your tutors don't kill you and you have files before Finals (2) working properly on your interesting courses, it's the only chance you'll have (3) having a life, in order that you might not burn out with three months still to go until Finals.

If you feel the need to feed buses, there are plenty of Year 8 students who are far more deserving of death. *showing admirable restraint, doesn't hack Gandalf*

*hugs*
