Sep. 30th, 2005 11:26 pmIn today's procrastination from work, I re-read a kiddy sci-fi book I'd loved when I was about... eight. Called "Aliens Ate My Homework". And to my surprise and absolute delight there were gay aliens in it. An interspecies same-sex alien relationship in a book aimed at 8-12 year olds.
I'd totally not noticed when I was little, but it's not just me reading it through slash goggles. They're described as being a 'bonded' couple, and they share a room and a bed, which none of the other crew do. There's a very cute bit where one thinks the other is dead. They make a very cute couple.
The whole point of the book is to do with tolerance for difference and stuff; one of the other aliens is genderless, and there's some really interesting talk about making assumptions based on binary gender oppositions.
It just made me happy.
